Our Organisation
As a member of the Australian Intelligence Community the Australian Signals Directorate’s functions are to:
- Collect foreign signals intelligence;
- Communicate foreign signals intelligence;
- Prevent and disrupt offshore cyber-enabled crime;
- Provide cyber security advice and assistance to Australian Governments, business and individuals;
- Support military operations;
- Protect the specialised tools that the Australian Signals Directorate uses to fulfil its functions; and
- Cooperate with and assist the national security community in the performance of its functions.
The Procurement Plan
The Australian Signals Directorate is a budget funded agency within the Defence portfolio. It is subject to the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) and Rules and the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs) however it has a specific exemption from Division 2 of the CPRs (see item 14). The Australian Signals Directorate publishes details of awarded contracts valued at $10,000 or more on AusTender.
The Australian Signals Directorate will continue to rely upon the Department of Defence as its shared service provider and will use Defence procurement arrangements on an as agreed basis. The Australian Signals Directorate will also actively assist the Office of National Intelligence in its creation of the National Intelligence Community as a genuinely national enterprise to the extent that this can be facilitated through its procurement actions.
