Strategic Procurement Outlook
The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) is a statutory agency, which originated in the Australian Family Law Act (1975) and is a prescribed agency under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997. AIFS is located within the portfolio of the Department of Social Services.
AIFS aims to increase understanding of factors affecting how Australian families' function by conducting research and communication findings to policy-makers, service providers and the boarder community.

1. Conduct high quality, relevant to policy and practice, on a broad range of issues regarding families in Australia.
2. Expand, through collaborative partnership, the national understanding of factors affecting families.
3. Increase the effectiveness of our communication to foster greater understanding about the factors that affect families.
4. Build our organisational capability to achieve research and communication objectives.
Located in Melbourne and employing approximately 90 staff, AIFS was established in February 1980 to promote the identification and understanding of factors affecting marital and family stability in Australia.
To support these activities, AIFS procure a range of goods and services. In additional to purchasing its normal office operating needs, from time to time AIFS will purchase goods and services related to conducting research and publishing.
