Strategic Procurement Outlook
The Workplace Gender Equality Agency is an Australian Government statutory agency charged with promoting and improving gender equality in Australian workplaces. The Agency is responsible for administering the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 (Act).
We are committed to promoting and contributing to understanding, acceptance and public debate of gender equality issues in the workplace. We work collaboratively with employers, business, industry and professional associations, academics and researchers, equal opportunity networks and women's groups and regularly speak at private and public events on workplace gender issues.
We work collaboratively with employers providing advice, practical tools and education to help them improve their gender performance. Our staff are workplace gender equality specialists and provide industry-specific advice. Our vision is for women and men to be equally represented, valued and rewarded in the workplace.
We also work with employers to help them comply with the reporting requirements under the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012. This reporting framework aims to encourage measures that improve gender equality outcomes and has been designed to minimise the regulatory burden on business.
The Agency uses the data that it collects to produce reports, including the annual WGEA Gender Equality Scorecard. The scorecard provides a snapshot of the critical trends in gender equality across the Australian labour force, and tailored Competitor Analysis Benchmark reports for each organisation. We also have an interactive data visualisation website wgea.data.gov.au.
The Workplace Gender Equality Agency was formerly known as the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency.
To support these activities, WGEA regularly procures a range of goods and services for its usual office operating needs.
_________________________________________
In the current financial year, the Agency plans to run a complex procurement outside its normal operations.
In 2018, the Agency received funding to replace the existing reporting and data management system, which is no longer fit for purpose, lacks flexibility, has performance issues during peak times and has resulted in significant reliance on the vendor for changes. The new Reporting and Data Management solution is expected to cater for mandatory reporting by relevant employers, as well as voluntary reporting by Australian businesses under 100 employees and the Public Sector.
The current system supports the annual collection of data by Australian businesses over 100 employees (relevant employers). Over 5,500 submissions are expected in 2019, covering almost 13,000 employers and over 4.4 million employees.
The system is also used to manage the Employer of Choice Gender Equality (EOCGE) program.
