Addressing skill needs through online micro-credentials in higher education
The Department of Education is commencing a project under the auspices of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to develop the capacity of APEC economies to deliver online micro-credentials in higher education. The project is funded and led by the Australian Government.
The supplier will be required to: (i) plan, facilitate and deliver three workshops on how to design, develop and deliver online micro-credentials in higher education; (ii) develop a toolkit informed by the workshops that outlines key tools, resources and best practices; and (iii) deliver a final report.
One of the three workshops is to be delivered in-person in Mexico in the first half of 2023. The remaining two workshops are to be delivered virtually.
The project will build the capacity of APEC members to deliver online micro-credentials and develop education offerings that can address local skill needs quickly and effectively. Australian providers will gain strategic benefit through a more favourable environment for online micro-credentials in offshore markets, as they can reach cohorts of learners in settings broader than the traditional modes of education delivered onshore. Expanding market access for Australian education providers overseas supports the long-term sustainability of our international education sector.
