AMSA uses aircraft to deliver a range of survival and communication aids to people in distress. Typically these are dropped under parachute by our Challenger jet aircraft in a configuration that is designed for low level drop (200 ft by day over water). In many conditions, satisfactory accuracy can be achieved. However, in circumstances where the aircraft has to drop from higher altitude, such as at night, it becomes very difficult to deliver stores accurately such that they can be recovered by the person in distress.
AMSA is exploring options for precision delivery of stores by means of remote guidance systems, including using unmanned vessels that can be deployed form aircraft
